1. Introduction
Koki (“we”, “our”) is an African recipe mobile application. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use the Koki application on iOS and Android.
2. Data collected
User account (optional): If you create an account, we collect your email address and a display name of your choice. Account creation is entirely optional — the app works without an account.
Cooking history: Your cooked recipes and preferences are stored locally on your device only. They are not transmitted to our servers.
Anonymous device ID: A unique anonymous identifier is generated on your device to enable voting and rating features without an account. This identifier contains no personally identifiable information.
Submitted recipes: If you submit a recipe, we collect the recipe content and your display name (public).
3. How we use your data
We use your data only to:
- Provide and improve the Koki service
- Send account-related emails from hello@kokiafrique.com (confirmation, recipe approval)
- Anonymous aggregate analytics to understand app usage
4. Data sharing
We never sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising purposes. No personal data is shared with third parties for commercial purposes.
Supabase: We use Supabase as backend infrastructure. Supabase processes account data (email) and submitted recipes in accordance with their privacy policy (supabase.com/privacy).
5. Your rights and account deletion
You can at any time:
- Access the data we have about you
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Withdraw your consent
Delete from the app: open Koki → Profile → Settings → scroll to the "Danger zone" → "Delete my account". The effect is immediate: your profile, saved recipes, ratings, cooking history and authentication tokens are permanently removed within 30 days. Your already-published community contributions (recipes, translations, approved photos) are kept but fully anonymised — your name is replaced with "Former Koki contributor".
Specific timelines: personal data (email, display name, session identifiers) deleted within 30 days. Database backups retained for at most 60 days then automatically purged. Server logs anonymised (IP truncated) within 30 days.
Delete by email: if you no longer have access to the app, email hello@kokiafrique.com from the address associated with your account. We process within 30 days.
6. Cookies
The kokiafrique.com website does not use tracking cookies. Only a functional session cookie may be used to maintain your language preference.
7. Security
Your data is stored securely via Supabase with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Access to account data is restricted.
8. Children
Koki does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Contact us at hello@kokiafrique.com if you believe a child has provided us with personal data.
